In 1980 the Medicine Lodge Rodeo was started by Alma Anderson, our mother, who believed that being a cowboy was something of which to be proud.  We are proud to carry on this belief and continue to strive to bring a truly western weekend to all contestants and spectators alike.

Today the Medicine Lodge Rodeo is one of the best semi-professional rodeos you’ll ever want to see.  Join us each year to see man and animal compete in battle, where both come out the winner.

The typical rodeo events include saddle bronc, bareback, novice horse riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, Jr and Sr barrel racing, junior steer riding, Jr bull riding, tie-down roping, cowgirl cow riding, and mutton bustin’ for those little cowpokes six and under.

Featured events include an all girls/ladies rodeo held on Friday night.  Each year our own special clown Squirrelly Early Anderson keeps the crowd entertained.  There is overnight camping - $10.00/Unit per night for those attending the rodeo event.

On Friday night there is a 'Kids Dance' with life music, with a Saturday night "Adults Only"  bonfire dance with live music for all the dancing cowgirls and cowboys.

There is a Saturday and Sunday morning pancake breakfast with a Cowboy Church service on Sunday.  All during the rodeo program on Sunday, which usually lands on (Mother’s Day), gifts are given to those mother’s and grandmothers in attendance who can fulfill Squirrelly Early Anderson’s questions or hilarious activities - a famous and much sought after award is who has the hairiest legs.

The Medicine Lodge Rodeo Committee understands the importance of tourism and has been working with this idea in mind for several years.  Besides holding our annual rodeo in May, we have been recognized through the International Tourism market and asked by various organizations and our local municipalities to host rodeo demonstrations for such groups as the Scouts Jamboree, British Air Force Cadets, Japanese student tour, Royal British Legion from Cheshire County and the Cheshire Constabulary, tour groups from Iceland in 2006, German tour groups in 2007.  In 2009 Global TV did a segment on “Your Town” of the rodeo event.

The members of the Medicine Lodge Rodeo believe in giving back to our community and surrounding areas.  From 2005-2012 we helped Braden Mole raise funds during our rodeo event for the Edmonton Stollery Children's Hospital and we still support the Stollery to this day.  During the Saturday auction In 2021, two bids of $50,000.00 for a total of $100,000.00 was raised for the Stollery Children's Hospital.  In 2022 a successful bid of $51,000.00 was raised for the Stollery Children's Hospital.

In 2022 and 2023 we were able to Sponsor a youngster in attending a summer camp for Kids Horsemanship.

We’ve helped in raising funds for Breast Cancer during Friday’s all girls rodeo.
